I’ve been watching chess grow in Corpus since 2023 when we last blew the chess scene up! 😖

That means something to me. Since then I’ve become the first black Poet Laureate, I’ve played all over Texas, and most importantly I’ve become a father.
I want to leave a positive mark on the world but before I do that I wanna take it back the start!

So on October 24 at 4 PM, we’re bringing it back to @theexchangecctx and I want the whole city in the room.

You can play in the free tournament, or put $5 on yourself and enter the paid tournament.

Because this was never just about chess to me.

It’s about giving people somewhere to be. Somewhere to compete. Somewhere to meet people they probably never would’ve met otherwise. Somewhere the city can actually feel like a city.

Then at 8 PM, the music starts and we keep the night moving.

I want to look around that room and see kids, grown folks, chess players, musicians, artists, families, friends and complete strangers all sharing the same space.

That’s the kind of Corpus I believe in.

And if we really want more culture here, more community here, more things that belong to us, then we have to show up for them while they’re being built.

October 24. 4 PM. The Exchange.

We’re still building. ♟️
