This summer, talented young artists ages 13–17 from the K Space Mural Arts Camp collaborated to bring to life the original work of local artist Josemaria Lopez. Over the course of three weeks, campers painted and installed the large-scale mural, transforming a public space into a vibrant piece of community art.

The mural project was led by teaching artists Emily Quintanilla and Amera Saenz, with participation from 36 youth artists. This marks the 26th mural completed through K Space Contemporary’s Mural Arts Program, continuing its mission to inspire creativity and beautify Corpus Christi.

In search of a prominent mural location, K Space Contemporary partnered with the Art Center of Corpus Christi to utilize the arches facing Shoreline Blvd—one of the city's most trafficked areas. These arches, once adorned with works by local artists, had remained bare in recent years.

The Art Center enthusiastically supported the idea and suggested Josemaria Lopez, a Vietnam Veteran and long-time contributor to exhibitions and events at the Art Center, as the featured artist. His meaningful connection to the community made him a natural choice to contribute to this public art initiative. This powerful work of public art was created as part of our H.E.ART (Hereos Engaging with Art) program which is an Art Center initiative that brings the transformative power of art to Veterans, Military Members, and their families.

Join us in celebrating local talent and community collaboration at the mural unveiling on August 16.

K Space Contemporary would like to thank our community sponsors and partners who made this year’s Mural Arts Program possible. Special thanks to HEB, Fox Pest Control, The Art Center of Corpus Christi, El Camino, AEP Texas, and Axis Tattoo and Electra Art.
