K Space Contemporary invites the public to a special Gallery Talk with multidisciplinary artist Omar González on Saturday, September 6 at 10 a.m. González will discuss his solo exhibition Parte de usted, a deeply personal body of work exploring grief, cultural heritage, and familial bonds.
A sixth-generation Tejano and Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University–Kingsville, González draws on his South Texas roots and Mexican heritage to examine themes of labor, identity, and personal iconography. This exhibition was created in the wake of his father’s passing from lung cancer in early 2024, channeling the artist’s search for meaning in absence.
“After my father's passing, I have been striving to make sense of the void his absence has left behind,” says González. Parte de usted reflects on the original meaning of “bereavement”—a state of deprivation—through symbolic objects that embody the presence of memory even when the physical body is gone.

The work captures the enduring connection between parent and child, while inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences of loss and remembrance. Rooted in cultural specificity yet resonating universally, Parte de usted honors the essence, teachings, and bonds that persist beyond death.

The Gallery Talk is free and open to the public. Coffee and light refreshments will be served.
