Consisting of South Texas artists, Alexandria Canchola, Monica Lugo, and Samantha Rawls, Her.mosa’s collaborative work encompasses themes of empowerment through sisterhood, a sense of play with geometric faces, curvilinear figures, patterns, dynamic compositions, and a vibrant color palette that highlights the connection to cultural roots.  This work is based on all the group’s guiding quest to find unity and live together peacefully.

La Galería is meant to allow visitors to walk through La Retama Park as if their walking through an outdoor art gallery.  The colors and whimsical-mixed-with-geometrical shapes showcase the vibrancy and dynamic culture in the downtown community.  The sentimental scenes between sisters featured in the mural illustrates their view that sisterhood is the key to empowerment, social change, and freedom. The Collective believes “This connection to each other allows all of us to recognize how our actions affect those closest to us.”

Additionally, this is an interactive mural that includes animated AR layers to showcase the existing confluence of our physical world and virtual existence. Users are invited to download the app, Artivive, to play the animated AR layers providing a sense of depth; taking the 2D work into a virtual 3D environment. The intent of this experimentation is to evoke an awareness of the shift in our new lives, of this hybrid existence.
