Corpus Christi Downtown Management District Announces Retiring Of Its Downtown Run Club
Corpus Christi, TX — The Corpus Christi Downtown Management District (CCDMD) announces that after six years, it is retiring the Downtown Corpus Christi Run Club which meets every Wednesday evening at B.U.S. (Bar Under the Sun). The community can now follow the Downtown Run Club After Dark (DRCAD) for information on weekly runs in Downtown. The DRCAD Wednesday run currently mirrors the day, time, location and route as the Downtown Run Club.
The Downtown Run Club was launched by the DMD in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way for community members to safely gather outdoors while promoting physical activity and wellness. Over the past six years, the Downtown Run Club has grown into a thriving social fitness group, hosting weekly runs followed by opportunities for networking and prize giveaways at participating downtown bars and restaurants.
The DMD remains committed to its core mission of providing excellent service in the management of downtown, placemaking, promotions, and economic development. As part of this strategic focus, the coordination of a weekly run event will transition to long-time Downtown Run Club Ambassador, Armando Mendez. Armando has been an active participant of the Downtown Run Club since the club’s early days and currently leads the Corpus Christi Run Club After Dark.
“CCDMD remains supportive of the run community and appreciates the role it has played in activating downtown spaces and fostering community connection,” said Arlene Medrano, Executive Director of the Downtown Management District. “Thank you to all participants, partners, and downtown businesses who have contributed to the Downtown Corpus Christi Run Club. We extend a heartfelt thank you to longtime presenting sponsor, AEP Texas, whose support has played a vital role in the growth of Downtown Run Club.”
The WinStamp check-in app will be officially retired on February 25th. Participants may redeem accumulated check-ins for merchandise until February 25th, or while supplies last, whichever comes sooner. Runners are advised that the January 28th Wednesday run will be the last official Downtown Run Club and DMD supported run.
