Downtown Corpus Christi Earns National Accreditation

Through Main Street America, CCDMD Highlights a Commitment to Economic Vitality,
Community Engagement, and Revitalization Efforts

Corpus Christi, Texas – The Corpus Christi Downtown Management District (CCDMD) is proud to announce that Downtown Corpus Christi has been designated as an Accredited Main Street America program, the highest level of recognition a downtown can achieve through the Main Street America Program.

The prestigious accreditation, awarded annually by Main Street America, recognizes communities that demonstrate exceptional commitment to economic development and revitalization efforts.

“Receiving national accreditation affirms the hard work and dedication of our staff, board members, business owners, partners, and community who continue to invest in a more vibrant and inclusive downtown,” said Arlene Medrano, Executive Director of the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District. “This recognition strengthens our mission to foster growth, preserve and cultivate local culture, and enhance the quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and visits Downtown Corpus Christi.”

Main Street America has been helping revitalize older and historic commercial districts for over 40 years. Today, it leads an impactful grassroots network of more than 1,200 neighborhoods and communities, united by a commitment to strengthen local economies and improve quality of life for residents and visitors.

To qualify for accreditation, Main Street programs must meet rigorous performance standards. These include demonstrating broad-based community support for the downtown revitalization process, having a strong public-private partnership, preserving historic structures, and implementing a comprehensive work plan aligned with their approach—economic vitality, design, promotion, and organization.

As an Accredited Main Street America program, Downtown Corpus Christi joins a national network of more than 800 neighborhoods and communities across the nation committed to creating high-quality places and to building stronger communities through preservation-based economic development.

“Downtown Corpus Christi has met and exceeded the rigorous standards set by Main Street America, earning accreditation in 2025 and joining an elite group of programs across Texas,” said Dr. Chris Moore, the Texas Main Street Program Assistant State Coordinator of Main Street America. “The transformation is especially visible in the Marina Arts District, where a surge in vibrancy and a sharp decline in vacancies over the past two years reflect the Main Street program’s impact. This milestone is a direct result of the dedicated leadership of local Placemaking & Main Street Manager, Aalec O'Donnell, and the tireless efforts of the DMD team and Board of Directors.”
