Downtown Management District Unveils Latest Area Mural Outside Congressman Solomon Ortiz International Center

Corpus Christi, TX, USA – As part of the Downtown Management District’s mural program, the Port of Corpus Christi shared a new mural on the exterior side entrance of the newly renovated Congressman Solomon Ortiz International Center, located at 402 Charles Zahn Jr Drive, adjacent to the Port Executive Administration Building. The artwork, titled “Fly Together,” is a powerful expression of unity, juxtaposing wildlife and innovation.

“The symbols of the design in the birds represent transparency and innocence all while taking flight,” said artist Gabriel Prusmack. “This colorful wall is an atmosphere of hope for success in the workplace or in any place. The bridge design ties in as a beacon of direction as a newness to look forward to while the water within the bottom signifies where we reside – the bay.”

Prusmack, whose art is featured throughout Texas, resides in Galveston. His style, influenced by the graffiti movement, involves utilizing hand-cut stencils to transfer photo images to found objects. Inspired by his faith and his travels along the West Coast, Prusmack uses his art to encourage people to, “be free,” a sentiment he conveys through a series of loops in his work.

“We always try to feature local and regional talent when selecting art for our beautiful Executive Administration Building and Conference Center, and we’re absolutely enamored with the work that Gabriel has done here,” said Jeff Pollack, Port of Corpus Christi Chief Strategy and Sustainability Officer. “His mural captures so many of the essential elements of life in the Coastal Bend in such a vibrant and dynamic way. Whether you’re driving by at a distance or examining it up close, there’s a color or shape or image that will catch your eye and make you smile.”

The Congressman Solomon Ortiz International Center officially reopened to the public on January 22, following one year of extensive renovations. The mural, featured on the exterior side entrance, is part of the Downtown Management District’s (DMD) Mural Program. The DMD’s Mural Program is a Placemaking initiative designed to activate underutilized spaces, enhance the visual character of downtown Corpus Christi, and celebrate local and regional artistic talent. Through strategic partnerships with property owners, public agencies, and artists, the program transforms building façades and infrastructure into vibrant works of public art that reflect the culture, history, and future of the Coastal Bend.

Since its inception, the Mural Program has contributed to downtown revitalization by creating engaging pedestrian experiences, supporting creative economies, and fostering a strong sense of place. Each project is thoughtfully selected to align with the surrounding environment while encouraging community pride, economic activity, and long‑term investment in the urban core.

“This project represents the power of partnership and shared vision. Working alongside the Port of Corpus Christi and talented artists like Gabriel Prusmack allows us to bring meaningful public art to life. This art that celebrates our waterfront, our workforce, and the forward momentum of downtown,” said DMD Executive Director, Arlene Medrano.
