Mural Fest 2026 Kicks Off With a Community Mural Honoring Connection, Unity, and America’s 250th Anniversary

Corpus Christi, Texas – The Downtown Corpus Christi Mural Festival presented by Corpus Christi Medical Center makes its highly anticipated return to Downtown for the fifth consecutive year with Community Kick-Off, hosted this Saturday, May 30th, 11:00AM-2:00PM at BUS, 702 N. Chaparral St.

Community Kick-Off is an event that invites everyone of all ages to assist with the creation of a new community mural, “Community Love” by Mural Mosaic, a 600-tile mural designed to be painted by local participants in partnership with K Space Contemporary. Once installed, the mural will be located on the east facing wall of the Mesquite Street Garage (facing 600 block of Chaparral). The event will also feature live music, free face painting, caricature artists, a photobooth and 20% off food purchases at BUS Tasty Bites.

“Community Love” embodies the core values of Downtown Corpus Christi- optimistic in its message, creative in its process, purposeful in its impact, collaborative in its execution, and inclusive in its invitation to all. It encourages residents of every background and skill level to contribute, transforming individual expression into a shared visual story. The mural message reflects a belief in the strength and beauty of connection—celebrating the unity in community. Subtle elements of the American flag woven into the background also honor the nation’s 250th anniversary, grounding the piece in a broader moment of reflection.

KSpace Contemporary is a nonprofit art organization in Downtown Corpus Christi that is dedicated to promoting contemporary art through exhibitions, education, and community engagement. Since 2008, the KSpace Mural Arts Program has completed over 30 murals across Corpus Christi, all created collaboratively with local youth and community members. These public art projects aim to beautify neighborhoods, foster creativity, and strengthen community pride through shared artistic experiences.

"KSpace Mural Arts believes that public art has the power to connect, inspire, and transform our community," said Michelle Smythe, Executive Director of K Space Contemporary and curator of K Space Mural Arts. "Bringing a new mural to Downtown Corpus Christi and to our community is more than just adding color to a wall it's about documenting our city's history, empowering our youth through creative expression, and creating a long-lasting landmark that reflects who we are as a community."

“This mural is a reflection of our shared history and our collective vision for the future of Downtown Corpus Christi,” said the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District Executive Director, Arlene Medrano. “We’re honored to partner with K Space to bring this mural to life and encourage the community to come out and leave their mark on our community.”

Murals produced by the festival are semi-permanent and intended to last for several years.
