Notice: Updated TCP Notice for November First Friday ArtWalk
UPDATED Temporary Road Closures during ArtWalk on November 1, 2024
Several streets will be temporarily closed to traffic on Friday, November 1, 2024, with closure procedures starting at 11:30am and in place by 2:00pm and will reopen after 11:30pm due to First Friday ArtWalk.
In addition, traffic flow through Taylor Street will be restricted from N. Mesquite to N. Chaparral Streets with N. Mesquite Street remaining open. Furthermore, the Twigg Street and Port Avenue/Nueces Bay exit ramp will be closed to southbound traffic with the traffic control in place by 11:00am on Friday, November 1, 2024, until 1:00am on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Motorists traveling along the eastbound Martin Luther King frontage road are advised to use Port Avenue to access downtown. Motorists traveling along Southbound US 181 are advised to utilize the Up River Road exit and turnaround to access downtown via eastbound IH 37. Motorists traveling along northbound SH 286 can utilize the Agnes Street exit to access downtown.
This change was made in efforts to improve event attendee safety, and we highly encourage visitors to plan accordingly in order to avoid anticipated delays due to street closures, traffic, and parking.
Typical street closures remain unchanged and are as follows:
- Chaparral Street will be closed from Taylor Street to John Sartain Street with Lawrence and Schatzell Streets remaining open for drive-through traffic
- Lomax Street will be closed from Mesquite Street to Water Street
- Peoples Street will be closed from Lower Broadway to Water Street with Mesquite Street remaining open
- Starr Street will be closed from Lower Broadway to Water Street with Mesquite Street remaining open
Attached below is the map detailing road closures and event footprint in which vehicles are susceptible for towing. Please note there will be a No Parking Plan in effect, in which No Parking signs will be posted within the road closure boundaries on Thursday, October 31, at 2:00pm. Towing will be enforced on Friday, November 1, beginning at 2:00pm.
