Press Release: Downtown Corpus Christi Celebrates the Grand Opening of Community Grocery

Downtown Corpus Christi Celebrates the Grand Opening of Community Grocery

Corpus Christi, Texas – Community Grocery is the newest business to open their doors in Downtown Corpus Christi. The bodega is celebrating their grand opening on Friday, March 7, during First Friday ArtWalk with an official ribbon cutting taking place at 6:00 PM. The event is hosted by the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District (CCDMD) in close partnership with the United Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce.

Community Grocery is a boutique grocery store that aims to provide small goods and household necessities typically not found in big supermarket chain stores. They will also serve as an incubator for local chef, artists, and small business owners. Other features include a ramen bar, a beer & wine bar, and pop-up art collective showcases. Hours of operation are Monday-Sunday, 8:00AM-10:00PM.

“The DMD has been an invaluable partner in our journey,” says Lucas Boyd, owner of Community Grocery. “With their unwavering support and guidance, along with assistance of the TIRZ #3 incentive programs offered by the City, we’re thrilled to present Community Grocery to Downtown Corpus Christi and all of the Coastal Bend and our surrounding neighboring communities.”

Support from the Downtown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone #3 (TIRZ #3) has helped make Community Grocery possible. “As Downtown Corpus Christi continues to grow and develop, so do the needs of downtown residents,” says TIRZ #3 Board Chairman and District 1 Council Member, Everett Roy. “The TIRZ #3 Board is committed to supporting and advocating for projects and amenities that will benefit the community and Corpus Christi as a whole.”

“Downtown has had a need for an establishment like Community Grocery that will add vibrancy and variety to our community,” says Alyssa B. Mason, Executive Director of CCDMD. “Residents, locals, and visitors will now be able to purchase small household necessities, bringing convenience into their everyday lives while encouraging more growth.”

This is the 3rd new business to open in FY ‘25 in Downtown Corpus Christi.
