Press Release: The Downtown Management District Presents the Downtown Perception Survey Report

Corpus Christi, Texas – The Corpus Christi Downtown Management District (CCDMD), in partnership with the Collaborative Community Research Center of Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi (TAMUCC), conducted a biennial survey to better understand the perceptions of downtown Corpus Christi. Now, CCDMD is happy to present the findings of the report.

Through this survey, CCDMD is able to identify trends and set realistic goals to create a better, more vibrant downtown on the Gulf of Mexico. The survey opened to survey participants in Nueces and San Patricio counties from December 5th to December 19th, 2023.

Highlights from the 2023 Perception Survey include (based off 710 completed surveys that utilized a sample of convenience):

  • Of the 710 completed surveys, 93% of residents have visited Downtown in the past 6 months.
  • There is a 16% increase in concern about homelessness within non-users (7% of completed surveys) compared to 2021.

“This comprehensive survey tracks our progress on improving the perceptions of downtown,” says Alyssa Barrera Mason, Executive Director of the CCDMD. “It also steers our team in the right direction as we continue creating the most vibrant downtown on the Gulf of Mexico.”

Another way CCDMD utilizes the perception survey is to test programming and new initiatives. A few of the 2023 New Programs included (based off 710 completed surveys that utilized a sample of convenience):

  • Improve Seawall –91% of downtown users said this was important.
  • Increase Trees & Landscaping - 88% of downtown users said this was important.
  • Wayfinding - 78% of downtown users said this was important.
  • Shuttle Service – 73% of downtown users said this was important.
  • Ferry Service - 64% of downtown users said this was important.
  • Open-Container Ordinance - 63% of downtown users said this was important.
