Details
Inspired by a colorized version of a photo taken by Russell Lee in Corpus Christi in 1939, the piece captures the essence of jetty fishing. The figure's stoic stance and piercing gaze towards the horizon evoke a sense of anticipation and contemplation, symbolizing the city's forward-looking trajectory within its historical roots, while at the same time, looking back in time at him—a time loop of sorts.
The name “Temporal Tides” is meant to hint at the pastime of fishing and the ocean while also drawing upon the metaphor of tides to convey the ebb and flow of time, echoing the cyclical nature of history and memory.
